Not all air filters are built the same. They are made out of different materials and are designed and constructed differently, which makes some work better than others. This means that a pleated paper filter will not work the same way as one of our filters -- and the same goes for other filter types (such as electrostatic filters) and other filters made by different manufacturers.
In this blog, we'll talk about the different qualities every effective air filter should have to give you the best indoor air quality control possible.
Qualities Every Air Filter Should Have
First off, we think every air filter should be made of top quality materials. But what are top quality materials when it comes to air filters? We're glad you asked! Pleated paper, in our opinion, is not a good base material for a filter. It does very little to remove the contaminants and pollutants from the air, simply because pleated paper does not have the ability to adsorb or absorb pollutants. Think of pleated paper filters like an entry level type of filter.
A great quality base material for a filter is polyester. Our filters are made of polyester! Polyester is great for filters because it does have the ability to adsorb the pollutants from the air. You can learn more about why polyester works differently by clicking here. Our product information page is very informative, and includes all the scientific details.
But a good quality filter shouldn't just have the ability to pull pollutants; it should have the ability to trap the nasty types of pollutants -- such as pet dander, dust, mold, and more -- and not re-release them into the air. If your filter did pull pet dander and mold from the air but then let those pollutants be re-circulated into the air, it would not be a very good filter.
Our air filters can and do trap these types of pollutants... and they keep them trapped with a sticky adhesive. That's right -- we put an adhesive on every one of our filters, which means those pollutants are not going to come back to bite you. Not ever!
A good quality filter should also be able to trap and contain nasty odors. Filters that do have this ability have a special carbon layer that adsorbs smells and purifies them, effectively making the indoor air smell better. Odors such as cigarette smoke, trash, and even cooking smells can be filtered out. Our filters do have this extra carbon layer, and can filter out nasty odors from your home.
